The short version

Capy Budget is a local-first application. Your financial data never leaves your computer unless you explicitly choose to sync it via a service like iCloud or Dropbox. We don't collect, store, or transmit any of your data.

Data storage

All budget data is stored as plain CSV files in a folder you choose on your local filesystem. The application does not use any cloud database, remote server, or third-party storage service.

No telemetry

The desktop application does not include any analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry. No usage data is collected or transmitted.

Intelligence layer

The optional AI features use Claude Code running locally on your machine. When you use smart import or other AI-powered features, your data is processed by the Claude CLI on your device. We do not have access to the content of these interactions. Please refer to Anthropic's privacy policy for details on how Claude processes data.

Web demo

The web demo at demo.capybudget.app runs entirely in your browser. It uses preset sample data and does not persist anything. No data is sent to any server.

This website

This website is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited). We do not use cookies or any third-party tracking scripts. See Vercel's privacy policy for details.

Capy Budget is open source under the MIT license. You can audit the entire codebase on GitHub to verify these claims.
